Lucia and Jason — GTA 6's dual protagonists inspired by Bonnie and Clyde

When GTA 6 Trailer 1 dropped, the world got its first look at Lucia — a Latina woman navigating Vice City's criminal underworld. She's joined by Jason, her partner and co-protagonist. Together, they form GTA's most compelling duo since the series began in 1997.

🔥 Historic moment

Lucia is the first playable female protagonist in a mainline Grand Theft Auto game in the series' 28-year history. This is not a DLC character — she is the primary lead of GTA 6's story.

Lucia — The Primary Protagonist

What we know about Lucia

Background — Latina woman, shown being released from Leonida Correctional Facility at the start of the story

Personality — Determined, street-smart, emotionally complex — motivated by survival and loyalty to those she cares about

Criminal history — Prior convictions, well-connected in Vice City's underworld, and highly capable in combat and planning

Story role — Primary protagonist — most trailers focus on her perspective and emotional arc

Gameplay style — Expected to have unique abilities focused on precision and social manipulation mechanics

Jason — The Partner

What we know about Jason

Background — Lucia's partner and love interest — a Vice City local with deep criminal ties

Personality — Loyal, impulsive, and charismatic — the wild card energy to Lucia's calculated approach

Story role — Co-protagonist — Jason's storyline intersects with and diverges from Lucia's across the campaign

Gameplay style — Expected to have brute-force and vehicle-focused abilities that complement Lucia's skillset

Relationship — Their bond is central to the story — the game's tension stems from external threats to their partnership

How Does Character Switching Work?

Like GTA 5's three-character system, GTA 6 lets players switch between Lucia and Jason during open-world exploration. In story missions, one character may be locked in — certain heists and story beats play out from a specific character's perspective, raising the stakes by making both protagonists feel essential.

Feature	Lucia	Jason
Combat Focus	Precision & stealth	Brute force & driving
Story Role	Primary protagonist	Co-protagonist
Background	Recently released convict	Vice City local criminal
Personality	Calculated, determined	Impulsive, loyal
Special Ability	Likely stealth/manipulation	Likely strength/vehicles

✓Latina representation in gaming's biggest franchise is a landmark moment
