⚠️ Before you start

Do not install random 'Game Booster' apps from the Play Store — most of them actually slow your phone down by running additional background processes. The fixes below use only your phone's built-in settings.

15 Lag Fixes — Start from Method 1

1

1. Enable Game Mode (biggest impact)

Go to Settings → Game Mode (or Gaming Hub on Samsung). Enable it and set your game to High Performance. This reserves CPU and RAM specifically for your game and blocks notifications during play.

2

2. Close all background apps

Before launching your game, press the recent apps button and close everything. Free at least 500MB of RAM. On Android 12+, go to Settings → RAM and check what is running.

3

3. Turn off battery saver completely

Battery saver throttles your CPU to 60-70% speed. Go to Settings → Battery → Battery Saver and turn it off before gaming. This alone fixes lag for most users.

4

4. Lower in-game graphics settings

Set graphics to Smooth (not HD or Ultra HD). Enable High Frame Rate if available. Disable shadows and special effects. Smooth + High Frame Rate gives better FPS than HD + Normal Frame Rate on every phone.

5

5. Use WiFi, not mobile data

Mobile data creates inconsistent ping that causes rubber-banding. Switch to WiFi and sit closer to your router. If WiFi is not available, set mobile data to 4G only (not Auto) for a more stable connection.

6

6. Clear game cache

Go to Settings → Apps → [Your Game] → Storage → Clear Cache. Do this weekly. Corrupted cache files are a common cause of sudden lag spikes that appear out of nowhere.

7

7. Set animation scale to 0.5x (Developer Options)

Enable Developer Options (tap Build Number 7 times in About Phone). Then go to Developer Options → Window Animation Scale, Transition Animation Scale, and Animator Duration Scale — set all three to 0.5x. This makes your whole phone feel faster.

8

8. Disable auto-brightness

Auto-brightness constantly adjusts your display which uses CPU. Set brightness to 50-70% manually before gaming. Lower brightness also reduces heat which prevents thermal throttling.

9

9. Keep your phone cool

Phones slow down when hot — this is called thermal throttling. Remove your phone case during gaming. Point a small fan at your phone. Take 5-minute breaks every 45 minutes. Cool phone = consistent FPS.

10

10. Free up storage space

Android needs at least 15-20% free storage to run well. If your storage is 90%+ full, your phone will lag constantly. Delete unused apps, move photos to Google Photos, and clear WhatsApp media that builds up over months.

11

11. Update your game

Run the latest version of your game. Old versions often have memory leaks and bugs that cause lag which are fixed in updates. Enable auto-update for your games in Play Store settings.

12

12. Disable in-game voice chat

Voice chat uses additional network bandwidth and processing. If you play solo or use Discord, disable in-game voice chat to reduce network load and improve ping by 10-20ms.

13

13. Use airplane mode + WiFi

Enable airplane mode, then manually turn WiFi back on. This disconnects all mobile radio signals except WiFi, reducing interference and giving you a cleaner network connection for gaming.

14

14. Restart your phone before long sessions

A fresh restart clears accumulated memory fragmentation. If you play long sessions (2+ hours), restart your phone before starting. This takes 30 seconds and can add 15-20 stable FPS.

15

15. Check your DNS settings

Go to Settings → WiFi → Advanced → Private DNS. Set it to "dns.google" (Google DNS). This reduces DNS lookup lag which causes the initial lag spike when a match starts.
